Magazine Cover

So this was my original vision when we were assigned the magazine cover assignment. I used a strong rule of thirds keeping in mind to leave room for the graphic designer to ad text and what not, and i shot the subject weighted right as if leading right into the magazine. With all this being shot and thought out, I then realized magazine covers are not horizontal. -_-

So I re-shot vertical. This was my second shot. I found it to be harder leaving breathing room for text and things without having the background too cluttered and distracting. It would've been easier to accomplish that if it was a shoot in a studio but that's not the type of magazine I was "shooting" for.
This I would say is my final one. I've seen issues of this magazine ( Equestrian) and many others where the title of the publication is behind an important part of the photo, in this case the subjects head. And there's room on the sides for other texts. But I put all three up to see what you guys think!

  1. Good job and I can see a lot of thought and effort went into these. I think your 2nd shot is your best and of course works best because it is a vertical.
